We completed a basement theater remodel that was an absolute pleasure to design. The homeowner wanted a place for his teenage daughter to spend time with friends and watch movies. The theater’s style was a mix of modern and rustic elements. It was designed with rough wood cladding and a sliding barn door. A gap between the ceiling and the wall was strategically created to keep the cladding on the walls unbroken between the theater and hallway. The continuous use of lines throughout the project lengthened the room and brought the focus to the theater screen.
We also used color to bring a touch of modern design to the rustic components. The sleek gray on the wood cladding complimented the bright white walls. The black drop-down ceiling kept the focus on the white walls where the theater screen would be placed. Shelving was added to a small alcove to keep the space organized. Finally, strips of multicolored lighting were added to the gap we created between the wall and ceiling. The homeowner’s daughter could choose from a rainbow of colors to light up the theater room.
